Elliot Schrage, Facebook’s top policy and communications executive and strategist, is stepping down.
The social media giant’s most recent controversy that Schrage oversaw was the monstrous data breach with Cambridge Analytica, affecting 87 million Facebook users by improperly collecting personal data. Schrage spent over a decade at Facebook, helping to navigate through intensified scrutiny following the 2016 presidential election.
“Leading policy and communications for hyper growth technology companies is a joy — but it’s also intense and leaves little room for much else,” Schrage said in a Facebook post announcing his resignation on Thursday. Schrage will continue to advise top Facebook executives, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
