President Trump blasted House Democrats for talking about impeachment and said they are so consumed with investigating him that they are shirking their legislative responsibilities.
“Everything the Democrats are asking me for is based on an illegally started investigation that failed for them, especially when the Mueller Report came back with a NO COLLUSION finding,” Trump wrote in a series of tweets early Wednesday. “Now they say Impeach President Trump, even though he did nothin wrong, while they ‘fish!’”
The president said that despite special counsel Robert Mueller’s nearly two year investigation into whether his campaign colluded with the Russians during the 2016 election Democrats didn’t like the result and now “want a DO OVER. In other words, the Witch Hunt continues.”
”The Democrats are getting ZERO work done in Congress. All they are focused on is trying to prove the Mueller Report wrong, the Witch Hunt!,” Trump continued.
“PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT!,” concluded in a 5 a.m. tweet.
Trump’s tweets come a day after his former White House counsel Don McGahn defied a subpoena to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.
The White House said McGahn didn’t need to comply because he had “immunity” as a former member of the administration.
Democrats were incensed at McGahn’s refusal to appear, leading to a growing chorus of voices calling for an impeachment inquiry to begin.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been reluctant to launch the proceedings and has been trying to tamp down expectations among her caucus members. This article was originally posted here.
